Investing in Culture:Initiative

New Initiative
Recently, I have begun an initiative whereby I read a play a day.  This initiative, however, is restricted to African American writers or plays about people connected to the African Diaspora (not necessarily African American writers).

Why take on an initiative like this?
In part to familiarize myself and others regarding the contributions of African American writers in terms of plays and normalizing African American life apart from stereotypes, though some plays may call on some of those caricatures.

Latest Play Read
Yesterday's play was from Richard Wright and Paul Green:"Native Son" adapted from the novel and also from Langston Hughes, "Limitations of Life" a satirical skit.  I actually enjoyed both, though Native Son starts off slower than I would have liked.  However, once the conflict starts it grabs you and doesn't let go.  Hughes makes a point of flipping stereotypes by Caucasian American authors on its head to show absurdity of certain beliefs.

Highlighting Footage on the Author or Play
This one speaks of Richard Wright with an appearance from Amiri Baraka.
Enjoy.
